Signal
on black

A single line of light in a dark room. Everything in the system is either the dark, the line, or something the line did.

Six motifs

Each shown at the moment that proves it

  • Analog line

One line, one pixel and a half thick, always horizontal, always at the waist of whatever it crosses. It is never decoration — if it is on screen it is doing something.

  • Glitch / interference

Horizontal only. Slices tear sideways at two scales, never vertically, never as blocks of colour. It arrives in bursts and it always resolves.

  • Scanlines / RGB shift

Channels drift apart when the signal is loud and close up when it is calm. Fringing grows toward the corners, the way glass does it.

  • Film grain

Always on, everywhere, including the pages. It is what makes the black a place instead of a void.

  • Dark / contrast

Black ground, bone light. Colour is an event. When amber shows up at the end it lands because nothing before it was warm.

  • Typography is hero

Tall condensed capitals, tracked wide, set light. The type is the image — nothing sits behind it and nothing competes with it.

House rules

Text colour
Bone on Void. Dim and Faint for secondary. Nothing dimmer than Faint carries words.
Red
Signal Hot when it has to be read. Signal only as a fill — it fails contrast as text.
Acid
One use per screen. It is the loudest thing in the system and it stops working the second time.
World colours
Inside artwork only. They never colour a button, a link or a label.
Corners
Square. Always.
Rules
One pixel, bone at 16%. At 38% when it has to hold a section.
Motion
Eases out, never bounces. Cuts are stepped. Anything that moves stops for reduced-motion.
Targets
44px minimum, everywhere.
